About Sabana Bed & Breakfast

  1. What kind of hotel are you?

We are a small property; our category is Bed and Breakfast. The B&B's where originated in England, almost all of them are remodelled houses that offer a personalized and familiar environment with a delicious breakfast in their rates.

Internationally our property is qualified with two stars. We offer comfortable and clean rooms and a wide variety of complimentary services. We are also proud to be certified with three leaves in eco and community friendly politics (Sustainable Tourism) and to be part of the Code of Conduct, program that protects children and teenagers in social risk.

  2. Who will be our host(s) at Sabana Bed and Breakfast?

The Cuadra Hernández Costa Rican family will be your host. For over 15 years our family has owned and run the B&B with success. It was Ignacio's idea, our father who in 1993 came with the initiative. He is a retired High School principal and Spanish teacher. His effort is supported by Eugenia (Gina), his wife, a retired Social Studies teacher. Along with her daughter Eugenia and his son José Ignacio the idea came true and today we are one of the best B&B's in San José.

Today the manager is José Ignacio, he graduated from Industrial Engineering and has been working in the Service Industry since 1993. Also José was a University teacher for over 6 years in the Tourism faculty and part of the National Tourism Chamber Board Member. All the family knowledge and team work will be a plus for your trip that no other hotel can provide.

  3. Where you are exactly located?

We have probably the best location for starting and ending your trip. In a residential area called North Sabana. This quiet and peaceful area is close to a lot of facilities and attractions. For more info visit our location area.

  4. What kind of breakfast do you serve?

We love to spoil our guests, so we offer five kinds of breakfast each day so you can choose the one you like most. The breakfast most requested is the Costa Rican but you may also try the American Breakfast, Low calorie Breakfast and the Continental Breakfast. Since airlines cut the food on the flights we offer to our early departure guests the Breakfast TO GO, prepared for self service in the early morning.

  5. What is the breakfast schedule?

Breakfast is served in our beautiful terrace from 7 a.m. till 10 a.m.

  6. Do you have kosher breakfast?

When the guest requests it, we can prepare any breakfast respecting the kosher rules, we can also do the Gallo Pinto without pork grease.

Yes, we have an indoor parking area with gates and safety locks where guests can park their car. Each room has a parking space provided.

  8. Do you have Internet?

Yes, we have a High Speed Cable Modem connection that you can use at the Business Centre that we have in each floor of the B&B. Also Wireless Internet throughout the building. Be sure to ask someone at home to teach you how to program your portable PC to detect a Wi Fi connection and get automatically and IP Address.

  9. Is Internet FREE?

Wi Fi Internet is FREE (24 hours) and if you use the Internet at the Business Centre is $ 1 USD half hour or less and $ 2 USD for one hour. We do not profit from this rate, we only use this money to give proper maintenance to the network and system.

Yes, we have 15 years of experience, so we know the best and more responsible companies and the best rates and best tours. Like the palm of our hand.

  12. Is it cheaper to reserve tours or car rentals thru you?

In the majority of cases, YES IT IS. Sometimes in internet you will find incredible rates but when you arrive here they will add extra charges that they omit on the web for marketing purposes. Thru us you won't experience this. Also if you use a company outside C.R. remember that the more intermediaries you use commonly the higher rate you pay. If you rent a car at the airport, the airport managing company receives a commission; this is reflected on the rates you get there.

  13. Do you serve Lunch or Dinner?

YES, we have a delicious menu, but you need to request this service one day in advance since we only cook fresh ingredients.

  14. What is included in your room rate?

In our rate is included the full breakfast, government taxes that are 3.69% of the tourism board tax plus a 13% of sales tax and a FREE airport – hotel transfer (this is provided from 7 a.m. till 7 p.m.)

  15. Do you have Air Conditioning?

No we don’t. In San José A/C is not needed, the average temperature is 70 – 75 Fahrenheit (21 Celsius) almost all year long. Also we prefer to reduce the energy consumption of the company to reduce Global Warming.

About the airport arrival

  1. Where do I exchange money?

Don’t do it in your country or at the Costa Rican airports, there are many banks close to our B&B where you can do it or at the hotel. The exchange rate varies each day but at the airport or other countries they will pay you a very low rate, meaning this that they will give you less COLONES for one US Dollar.

  2. What kind of currency should I bring?

It's better to travel with US Dollars, we don’t recommend bringing Canadian dollars or Euros or Travellers checks, on the other hand a lot of Costa Rican banks will change Euros to Colones, a few will change Travellers Checks. Other currency will only be exchanged by the C.R. Central Bank located in Downtown San José.

About the country

  1. What kind of clothing should I bring to Costa Rica?

Costa Rica has tropical weather, winter or summer is not very accurate to say. It is better to say rainy and dry season. We recommend light clothing, T-shirts, Polo shirts, jeans, baggie pants, shorts, bermudas and similar. Remember we have a lot of altitudes, so if you go to a volcano, on the top will be cold, if go to the beach, commonly are hot at the sea level, in the mountain areas and San José is pretty fresh. Don’t forget a rain coat, a light jacket and tennis or walking shoes.
